A message of hope, new Krishnamurti books
Barack Obama got to be President- elect in the USA because he offered a message of hope and the response (mainly from young people) was overwhelming. The fear driven politics dominating the world for the last 50 years has finally given way to the central ideology that "Change is possible." How uplifting that is! We are proud to announce that we have bought the rights to five books by the world-renowned J. Krishnamurti. They are coming into print in the coming days. They mainly address the problem of relationships and are aimed at young people with questions about life. Please see extracts below. I conclude by wishing you and your loved ones a peaceful and happy Holiday Season, whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukah, or Divali.

The Machinery of Image Making |
The Mirror of Relationships - Love, Sex and Chastity
Have you ever looked at your wife, or your husband, or your children, or your neighbour, or your boss, or at any of the politicians? If you have, what is seen? The image you have about a person, the image you have about your politicians, the Prime Minister, your god, yourwife, your children -- that image is being looked at. And that image has been created through your relationship, or through your fears, or through your hopes. The sexual and other pleasures you have had with your wife or your husband, the anger, the flattery, the comfort and all the things that your family life brings -- a deadly life it is -- have created an image about your wife or husband. With that image you look. Similarly, your wife or husband has an image of you. So the relationship between you and your wife or husband, between you and the politician is really the relationship between these two images, Right? That is a fact. How can two images which are the result of thought, of pleasure and so on, have any affection or love? So the relationship between two individuals, very close together or very far, is a relationship of images, symbols, memories. And in that, how can there be real love? Do you understand the question? Jiddu Krishnamurti, New Delhi, December 22, 1966

We are Society |
Relationship: to Oneself, to Others, to the World
We are society; we are not independent of society. We are the result of the environment -- of our religion, of our education, of the climate, of the food we eat, the reactions, the innumerable repetitive activities thatwe indulge in every day. That is our life. And the society in which we live is part of that life. Society is relationship between man and man. Society is cooperation. Society, as it is, is the result of man's greed, hatred, ambition, cruelty, ruthlessness -- and we live in that pattern. And to understand it -- not intellectually, not merely theoretically, but actually -- we have to come into contact directly with that fact, which is, a human being -- that is you -- is the result of this social environment, its economic pressures, religious upbringing, and so on. To come into contact with anything directly is notto verbalise it but to look at it.

What you are, the World is. |
What are doing with your life?
What is the realtionship between yourself and the misery, the confusion, in and around you? Surely this confusion, this misery, did not come into being by itself. You and I have created it, not a capitalist nor a communist nor a fascist society, but you and I have created it in our relationship with each other. What you are within has been projected without, onto the world; what you are, what you think and what you feel, what you do in your everyday existence, is projected outwardly, and that constitutes the world. If we are miserable, confused, chaotic within, by projection that becomes the world, that becomes society, because the relationship between yourself and myself, between myself and another is society -- society is the product of our relationship -- and if our relationship is confused, egocentric, narrow, limited, national, we project that and bring chaos into the world.

Are you a Global Citizen? A recent market survey conducted at the behest of SABC was focussed on attitudes in addition to the usual criteria of income, class, race etc. It offered some very interesting results in terms of which it offers great hope for a positive future in SA. The main categories were: Survivors (3.7m), Nation Builders (5.5m), Now generation (5.8m), The Established (2.3m), the Rooted (4.8m) and Global Citizens (4.8m). Global Citizens represent innovation, wealth and technology. They live busy lives and thrive on the next challenge. They do not like to be restricted by tradition and believe in equal opportunities for men and women. This group of people is well travelled and therefore has a broad outlook on life. They are:
- Strong in ages 16 - 24
- From mid- to Upper Living Standard

- Forward thinking and creative
- Strong spirit of entrepreneurship
