How to become an Author? Accepted Manuscript Formats
What are the steps to successful publishing?

Why would anyone want to become an author? What does it entail? Do people want to become authors from an early age? Does one have to have a literary background, or does one have to be in a job like journalism, or be a magazine editor in order to write a book? We could say.....NO..... BUT....you have to love to read!

We as publishers can’t imagine that there are people who make an attempt to write a story, or who suddenly feel that they have to tell their story if they themselves do not read.

Six major aspects that are very helpful in becoming an Published Author.
  • If reading is your addiction, you have a chance of becoming an author, no matter what your background, status or education.

Some of the manuscripts we received in the past had absolutely no outline, no overview or there was very little information on the writers themselves and what made them write a book. We at Kima Global realised that those writers had never investigated how one presents a manuscript to a publishing company or a literary agent. For that reason alone we created submission guidelines.

Some people still write to us to ask if we are interested in sponsoring their amazing idea. (There is no manuscript yet but they outline their idea.) Sometimes it can work if the topic is unique, but without a completed manuscript there is no book.
Occasionally we still get a handwritten manuscript or one that is typed on an old typewriter. We rarely look at these submissions, unless it is so unique that it grabs our attention.

  • What grabs our attention?

We are looking for writers who are original in their approach, have done their homework on their topic and have their readers in mind when they write about their passion.

  • You have to have a passion for the subject you write about. It has to come from the heart.

If there is no passion or love for the topic of your writing, how can one be original and authentic? When you walk into a bookshop, the many titles that fight for your attention are like neon lights all flashing at the same time. What makes one book stand out from all the others? What grabs your attention as you walk in. Which book will make a difference to your life? Depending on the subject you're interested in, any book you read must or should have some impact on your life, even if it is purely for your entertainment. A good book has often given you something that you already had within you. Even when it was purely fictional. It is the inspiration or the trigger that made you change or do something about your current situation that made the book a good book in your case. Think back to the GOOD Books you read in the past. A good book makes the readers think about themselves. A good book awakens the spirit within.

  •  A good book holds a gift of value deep within its message whether it is a factual or fiction story, a workbook, or a non fiction subject.

You may remember or have read Ayn Rand's novels. Her characters were people the reader wanted to experience in their life. Remember also the Lobsang Rampa Books that were popular during the seventies. They were easy to read and made the reader open their mind. No matter if they either disregarded the topics in order to be authentic, or if it grabbed the reader's adventurous spirit. The books were selling like hotcakes! Then the books written by Annalee Skarin, Ken Carey, L Krishnamurti, M. Scott Peck, Deepak Chopra, Barbara Ann Brennan, Carlos Castaneda to name only some, all grabbed the attention of many readers in a profound way. So many books out there made us who we are today. All these authors have the same thing in common. They are passionate and fully comprehend their own subject. They want to make a difference.

  • To write a book, any book, you need to research your topic well.

During research time, which is often for many writers in their spare time, research can be experienced in various ways. Our lifestyles, our work and the people in our lives are often our resource material. That is why writers have to have 'lived' in order to write a book.

  • You have to have some life experiences to write a book and / or......lots of determination!

If you have just finished schooling or university, there is often a hankering to become famous or at least be somebody of note. But that kind of daydreaming is rarely a good basis to write a book. Most people lack the staying power and the drive to keep at it. There are some great young authors around, but they are rare. If you have a passion anything is possible.

If you feel that you qualify in all these points and you have written a book that can make a difference to people’s lives, we would like to hear from you. (read our Guide for prospective authors under gettingpublished.htm)
